How to reduce image file size (compress JPG, PNG, WEBP)

A form says your photo must be under 200 KB, or your email is too big to send? You can shrink images while keeping them sharp.

Open the tool

Step by step

  1. Open the image tools and choose the Compress tab.
  2. Drop one or more photos onto the box, or paste one with Ctrl+V.
  3. Choose the format to save as. WEBP gives the smallest files; JPG works everywhere.
  4. Set the quality (70 to 85 is a good balance), or type a target size such as 200 KB and the tool finds the quality for you.
  5. Press Convert, check the before and after sizes, and save one photo, or all of them with Save all as ZIP.

Good to know

  • Making the image smaller in pixels (Resize tab) shrinks the file the most.
  • PNG stays lossless; set PNG colors to 256 to make it much smaller.
  • Location data (GPS) inside photos is removed when you save.

Is it safe?

Yes. Your photos are compressed inside your own browser and are never uploaded, which matters for ID photos and personal pictures.
